Demand COVID-19 support for social enterprises from the Chancellor of the Exchequer
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a big shock to our society, our economy and social enterprises.
Social enterprises are eligible for some of the support available to businesses, but we know from listening to the sector that more is needed or social enterprises risk closure.
We need you to personally write to the Chancellor of the Exchequer today, to demand that he does more to support the UK's 100,000 social enterprises through this crisis.
You can amend the template below.
Social enterprises employ 2m people and contribute £60bn to the UK economy. We are a significant part of the UK's economy and need to be supported.
Social enterprises are working in every sector of our economy, from the frontline of some of the sectors most impacted by COVID-19 such as health and social care to retail, hospitality, leisure, transport and manufacturing.
Together they are generating billions of social value every year, employing vulnerable people and reinvesting their profits back into communities. In our most deprived communities 22,000 social enterprises are working providing vitally important jobs for communities. We estimate that up to 440,000 people could be working in social enterprises in these areas. Another 35,000 social enterprises are employing people from vulnerable backgrounds such as those with disabilities, homeless people, veterans, single mothers and many more. These are jobs which will be very hard to replace in the event that social enterprises close.
Social enterprises are the backbone of business in communities across the UK and they need support to get through this health emergency.
Decisions about who and what to support will be made within HM Treasury - so we need to get our message through to the Chancellor is key.
Help us to get social enterprises the support they need by personalising this template letter to the Chancellor today. Every letter will make a difference.
